Aquarium planned near the Pavilions in Scottsdale

Phoenix Business Journal.

The group behind the Butterfly Wonderland near Scottsdale plans to break ground this summer on a new large-scale aquarium project that’s being dubbed as “Sea World meets Disneyland.”

Construction on OdySea Aquarium is slated to begin this summer off Loop 101 and Via de Ventura Drive on tribal land next door to the Butterfly Wonderland attraction that opened last year. The 200,000-square-foot aquarium will include 2 million gallons of water for its numerous exhibits and myriad species.

Home Sale Charts – Updated

Home prices increased in many Scottsdale zip codes in December. That was counter the typical seasonal trend which is for home prices to weaken in December. See Scottsdale home prices trends by zip code here. For prices to go against the seasonal trend and actually increase in December is VERY bullish for home prices this spring. McCormick Ranch Restaurants and McCormick Ranch Shopping

Wow, it’s been almost 4 years since I (spent a ton of time and) created the maps of McCormick Ranch.

Click on either of the 2 lower maps in the right-hand column.

I used to wonder if people actually used the McCormick Ranch maps after all the hard work it took to create them and I learned they did because I received 2 complaints last year about the list of restaurants and shops being out of date! Well, at least it was good to know that the maps were actually being used.

Updated – McCormick Ranch Restaurants and Shops

So I just paid my unemployed recent college graduate son to update the lists. (Anyone need an entry-level bio-engineer? Anyone?)

Check out the restaurants near McCormick Ranch.

Bee swarm found south of McCormick Ranch

You can assume that any bees you see are the very aggressive Africanized bees.

A large swarm of bees stung several residents and at least two firefighters Tuesday as they responded to an active beehive in a pine tree at a Scottsdale home.

The beehive, which was comparable to the size of a trash can, was resting 35 feet high in the tree in the 5300 block of North 83rd Place, near Granite Reef and Jackrabbit roads.

Fire crews worked with the homeowner to contact a bee-removal service, and nearby residents and schools had been contacted, informing them of the situation and to stay inside, according to the Scottsdale Fire Department.

None of those stung by the bees has been taken to the hospital, Nichols said.

Since the entry of Africanized honey bees into Arizona in the 1990’s, bees are no longer cute.

If you see some bees you should see if you can find out where they are coming from.

If you can find where you think the hive may be, DO NOT attempt to remove it yourself. Tell the property owner and if it is on your property, call a company that specializes in the removal of bee hives. Call your local fire department of advice.

I understand, although I’m no expert, that Africanized bees won’t go more than about one-quarter mile from the hive. That means that you can out run them.

But not everyone can escape. Most of the deaths are elderly folks who can not run away fast enough and pets who are trapped in their backyards or on leashes.

Keep an eye out for bees in your neighborhood.
